ICC News Item #370
NEWS 370 (10-Mar-96) ICC host move update
The date on which ICC's host machine will move has been postponed. It
will probably happen around the end of March. The new site will have
a direct 10MB laser link to the Pittsburgh Supercomputer Center (PSC).
The host address will not change.
The lag problems we were having in early February were caused by software
and hardware configuation problems at the internet provider that ICC uses.
These problems have been solved.
We can't predict the effect of the move on the lag that specific people
are experiencing, because the lag can be caused anywhere on the path
between you and the ICC host machine. All users should experience at
least a small improvement in performance. The new connection will be a
very good one, because (1) the PSC is a very well connected site, and
(2) the 10MB bandwidth should be more than enough for our needs.
