Tal Memorial 2009
 |
|
The highlight of the 2009 chess calendar is unquestionably one of the strongest tournaments in history, the ongoing Tal Memorial in Moscow featuring 8 of the current top 10 players in the world.
Surprisingly, as all the media attention focuses on the ascent to the top of Norway's 18-year-old Magnus Carlsen, it's the reviving fortunes of a former World Champion that's all the talk of Moscow. Russia's Vladimir Kramnik - who has been plagued by ill-health in the past few years and seen a drastic dip in form - has defied his critics with a powerful performance reminiscent of his rise to the top when he dethroned Garry Kasparov.
After four rounds and reaching the rest day, Kramnik has a +2 score of 3/4 after beating up heavily on fellow Russians Alexander Morozevich and Peter Svidler. He leads

at the top by half a point ahead of the only other two victors so far, World Champion Vishy Anand and Armenia's Levon Aronian.
Can Kramnik hold on for victory, or will Anand and Aronian or possible Carlsen make a move to thwart the former World Champion's comeback? You can find out here on ICC with our extended live coverage of the Tal Memorial each day on Chess.FM.
Just sign-up today for ICC and you can sit back and watch all the action unfold from one of the strongest tournaments of all-time, as hosts Mig Greengard & Macauley Peterson (who will also be in Moscow filming the second half for ICC) will be joined for move-by-move commentary from our expert grandmaster team of Joel Benjamin, Larry Christiansen, Nick De Firmian, Gregory Kaidanov, Ronen Har-Zvi and Jon Speelman.
We'll also have the daily New In Chess trivia and ICC Game of the Day trivia (see below). Play gets underway each day here on ICC at 7am - finger TalMemorial09 for further info. Our Game of the Day service is reserved for members only, but for non-members there's a sneak 5min preview of each of the day's selected game.
