Tournament Times  Back to the Future at Bazna

In the 1960s, it was Boris Spassky who kept the flag flying for the swashbuckling King's gambit at elite level with memorable wins over David Bronstein - which later became immortalized in the opening sequence to the James Bond movie From Russia with Love - and Bobby Fischer. Now it is Magnus Carlsen going back to the future in elite tournaments, as the Norwegian world #1 took everyone by surprise by using the venerable King's gambit to good effect to score his first win at the Bazna King's Tournament.

Carlsen beat China's Wang Yue to conclude a brutal round four - with all three games being decisive - and to take the joint lead on 2.5/4 . He's joined at the top with Azeri Teimour Radjabov, who stormed Boris Gelfand's fortress for an impressive victory - and one that was an easy Game of the Day pick for resident Chess.FM site pro GM Larry Christiansen.

GOTD is a member-benefit here on ICC. But for non-members we have below included a 5 minute free preview as a sampler of these wonderful grandmaster recaps of the day's action from top tournaments. If you want to view the GOTD in full, become an ICC member by clicking here.

Games will be relayed live on ICC starting at 08:30AM EDT (06:30AM final round), with rest days on 18th & 23rd June. Chess.FM will provide a GOTD service throughout featuring main host GM Larry Christiansen & IM Mark Ginsburg. Only ICC members can follow the live relays and view our hit GOTD recap videos - so why not join now to follow the progress in the second half of leaders Magnus Carlsen & Teimour Radjabov by clicking here?

Also not to be missed is the superb video coverage direct from the playing hall from Peter Doggers of Chessvibes.com.

Tournament Times Featuring Chess.FM

One of the great benefits of ICC (apart from all the top-notch online play and tournaments) in recent years has been the upgrade in our Chess.FM service - many members agree that the live Chess.FM commentary and GOTDs from our elite tournament coverage alone is worthy of their membership fee. Also we have six regular weekly shows, one of which below being Chess Talk with IM John Watson.

Last Show GM Yasser Seirawan  Preview Full show (Members-Only)

This week (Tue., June 15), joining IM John Watson for the first of a two-part special will be GM Yasser Seirawan.

One of the strongest and popular players in U.S. history, Yasser Seirawan is a four-time U.S. Champion who qualified for the World Championship Candidates series twice and is one of few players in the world to defeat both Kasparov and Karpov in tournament competition while they were still reigning World Champions.

Yasser is also acknowledged as one of the game's top commentators, as demonstrated with his numerous television appearances on ESPN during the Kasparov vs Machine matches and also as the online commentator for ChessBase.  He is also a leading writer on the game that includes his six books of the award-winning "Winning" series original published by Microsoft Press and now Everyman.
