Kramnik Kicks Bilbao
Former World Champion, Vladimir Kramnik, kicked back the years by turning in one of his best performances of late to win the Bilbao Masters Grand Slam Final in Spain. Kramnik's +2 winning score of 10/18 (using the Bilibao football scoring system - 4/6 normal scoring system) not only gave the Russian #1 the title ahead of World Champion Vishy Anand, but also boosted his Elo rating by 11 points.
The tournament also saw the fall of Magnus Carlsen, as the Norwegian teenager's opening two losses (to Kramnik and Anand, coupled with his three losses at the Olympiad) dropped him to second place in Hans Arnild Runde's Live Rating List - with Anand now set to officially hold both titles of world champion and world #1 again come the publication of next month's official November 1st FIDE list.
And straight from Bilbao, Anand and Carlsen get set to do battle yet again as they join Veselin Topalov, Vugar Gashimov, Wang Yue and Etienne Bacrot for the Pearl Spring Masters in Nanjing, China, which starts at 3am ICC time on Monday, 18 October! Chess.FM will be on the air for live coverage of this event with their expert Grandmaster broadcast team - and with the Tal Memorial and London Chess Classic also being broadcast live on Chess.FM, now is the time to join ICC by clicking here to get all the best in move-by-move grandmaster commentary.

USCL Week 8
Another kicking it high recently in the US Chess League has been Chess.FM's Larry Christiansen. In the past three weeks, Larry has won two Game of the Week prizes - his latest, for his Week 8 win over IM Jonathan Schroer, was a typical LarryC tactical meleé as his team, the Boston Blitz, moves closer to securing the second spot in the Eastern Division
In the West, as the league moves into the penultimate week of play in the regular season Chicago takes on Miami, with both desperately fighting for a coveted playoff spot; with the Seattle Sluggers taking on the San Francisco Mechanics with the Sluggers in a must win situation and the Mechanics trying to make sure they don't miss the postseason for the first time in the league's history.
