Feel the Force

A tournament battle between the world nos 1 and 2 have always played a part of historic showdowns in the chess annals, and a modern-day classic is developing at Tata Steel 2012 in Wijk aan Zee, as Magnus Carlsen and Levon Aronian share the lead on 3/4 at the first rest day of the tournament.
After just four rounds, the Norwegian world No.1, has seen his daily live rating now jumping to 2841.2, less than 10-points off of Garry Kasparov's record. The big question now is: Can Carlsen cross the ratings' rubicon of 2851 before the end of the tournament? You can have your say on whether he can or not by voting now on the ICC FaceBook poll by clicking here.
Carlsen had the bragging rights of beating his rival for the ratings top-spot in an epic showdown in round three between the top two, but Aronian immediately bounced back into contention by beating American Gata Kamsky in round four to level with Carlsen, who himself faced a spirited challenge from rising Italian star Fabiano Caruana.
Both Carlsen and Aronian are obviously the force for the future, both are at the top of their game right now, and the ensuing battle between them for the outcome of the Tata title is going to be one not to be missed. Will it be Carlsen or will it be Aronian? Or, will rising stars, such as Carauna and Anish Giri - the two top teenagers in the world rankings - show that they too can force their way to the top of the elite pack?
All of those question and many more will be answered soon enough, as play resumes, and you can follow it all live here on ICC's Chess.FM, where our Grandmasters of the Mic - Yasser Seirawan, Ronen Har-Zvi, Alex Yermolinsky, Joel Benjamin, Varuzhan Akobian, Gregory Kaidanov and David Smerdon - will be bringing you all the action as it happens, when it happens!
