Dortmund: The Realm of King Vlad
With the Tal Memorial archived, and another win by Numero Uno GM Magnus Carlsen, the 2012 Summer has still some important events to be followed. The Bazna tournament, sadly, has been cancelled due to the economic crisis and the peculiar political situation in Romania. Fortunately the mighty Germany can still afford to sponsor - through the famous bank - one of the most important chess events of the year: The Sparkassen Chess Meeting. This year the tournament line-up is very interesting, with former World Champion Vladimir Kramnik as top seed, followed by the I-am-everywhere Italian young peripatetic talent Fabiano Caruana, and then a plethora of strong players, such as Sergey Karjakin, Ruslan Ponomariov, the come-back-wannabe Peter Leko, Mateusz Bartel, and the four German musketeers: Arkadij Naiditsch, Daniel Fridman, Georg Meier and Chess.FM commentator Jan Gustafsson. Last year King Vlad won the Sparkassen Chess Meeting by large, with 7.5 points out of 10 rounds, setting up a record of 10 victories in this prestigious event. This year the tournament will be a Round-Robin with 10 players, starting on July the 13th. Games start at 9:15am ICC time, and Chess.FM will be on the air with his team of GMs to share the fun with you! We will have the usual TRIVIA during broadcast, and the daily GOTD TRIVIA sponsored by the best chess magazine out there: New in Chess! Every day a lucky ICC member can win a one-year subscription to the prestigious magazine!
And that's not all! ICC will continue the broadcasting service without interruptions until August the 3rd! Another Summer interesting event - The 45th Biel Chess Festival - is starting July the 21st, and ICC members will have live coverage and Chess.FM broadcast with our "dream team" of commentators. The organizers have managed to get an amazing line-up: Numero Uno Magnus Carlsen, American idol Hikaru Nakamura, the unpredictable but always entertaining Russian Alexander Morozevich, the strong Chinese GM Wang Hao, French talent Etienne Bacrot and the young GM from the Netherlands Anish Giri.
Don't miss the fun! ICC is going to make your Summer interesting and very chess-able!
